Mexico is justifiably famous for quartz variety amethyst crystals, particularly material from two major localities that produced over 90 percent of Mexican amethyst (Guerrero and Las Vigas). However, for those of us who value things that are unusual, different in style, and from surprising localities, I can recall these wonderful purple "hedgehogs" of deeply colored amethyst coming out even as late as the 1980s, and some came quite earlier. This is a complete, gorgeous, 3-dimensional knoll of adjoined crystals, very curvaceous, from this famous but seldom seen quartz location.
