The Rock Candy Mine's combinations of Fluorite, Quartz, and Baryte are Canadian classics, as are some the stand-alone Fluorites such as this giant specimen. Here we have two generations of Fluorite - a rich, sea-green, crystallized core covered with an exceptional layer of gemmy, botryoidal purple Fluorite. You can see the green Fluorite through the purple, and the quality is quite good. The piece is simply huge and shows better in person - the details don't come through as well in the pics. In person, you can clearly tell how the purple secondary layer of fluorite coats the green octahedral fluorite crystals below. The largest of these octahedra appears to be about 6 cm across, which is significant and impressive. Very choice and excellent material from this well-known locale, with intense fluorescence, to boot.
