Talk about a rarity! Two hundred years ago, James Sowerby, in his famous book, "Exotic Mineralogy," painted a specimen from this type deposit for crocoite. Specimens are extremely rare, today, and this is clearly an older piece. This particular matrix specimen features 1 cm terminated, bright reddish- orange crystals surrounded by milky quartz crystals. Some crystals are abraded, which is not unusual for such a soft (2.5-3) mineral. However, most of the crystals are undamaged.
