Most sphalerite crystals are dark to black, but this small locality in upstate New York has occasionally produced some real jewels of sphalerite, which is something we do not say often. This is a glitterly, sparkling rosette of small crystals measuring 1.25 cm across, with golden color more like baryte than other sphalerites. It is a complete flower, on matrix. While others have been found, they do tend to be more brown in color and this has a bright, pure color that makes it more special.
