Galena and Fluorite
An old piece from the district, that came to Ross Lillie in an old collection, this is an outstanding and very complicated 3-dimensional combination piece featuring sharp Galena cubes on Fluorite. The Galenas have good luster and range up to 1.6 cm. They rest on, and in fact interconnect, large cubes of vivid purple Fluorite. This particular color is prevalent at the Hill-Ledford Mine. The Fluorites, which range up to 3.5 cm, are extremely interesting because the stepped cubes are complete in one view, and highly stepped inward on the other side, creating inward curves. The growth surfaces are complete - just the habit is a partial cube. There are also numerous radiation spots. Mined in the 1960's, the brecciated appearance of the specimen is typical of this ore body. Notice the gaps in some of the pics, showing the "brecciated" style of the fluorite crystals. This is a great small cabinet specimen, having significant mineralogical and locality interest, excellent quality, and fine aesthetics. RCL 1216
