Lustrous, dendritic aggregates of flattened, golden-silvery sylvanite crystals richly cover the dense matrix coated with contrasting calcite. This old-time specimen is from the historic gold-mining district of Offenbanya, Romania, the Type Locality for sylvanite. An old paper label in German attached to the piece has an 1854 date on it. This is only 19 years after sylvanite was discovered at Offenbanya. Certainly, one of the larger and richer sylvanites you will see from this historic locale. The label is a bonus.
