The Live Oak pit is the best-known source of gem chrysocolla used in jewelry and also quite well-known for collector specimens of this mineral. The best-loved are these sky-blue pockets sparkling with a layer of tiny quartz crystals. Here, the matrix is laced with bands of green malachite, a common association with these specimens. This piece is special as it preserves the natural environment and shows how the material forms in the thick chrysocolla layer, so instructively. But it is also a beautiful contrast. Ex. Consie Prince Collection.
