Azurite, always high on a collector's list, is one of the signature species from the great Tsumeb Mine. Known for their form, luster, and often vibrant color, the lustrous crystals here average 1-1.5 cm with the largest reaching 2 cm. This cabinet specimen is virtually 100% Azurite, and the crystallized side is a literal forest of Azurites, so dense, yet individual, it reminds me of many of the great Manganite specimens from Ilfeld. Under just one good light, you can see bright, gemmy-blue flashes from all angles as you move your gaze around. Put a good light behind it, and the Azurites glow like a field of blue christmas lights. There is, please note, a lot of damaged crystals on this plate, but it is still so interesting and unusual that it could have a place in some collections. These Azurites are so GEMMY and TRANSPARENT, when backlit you can be transfixed by how incredible they all look. This is a remarkable specimen for both its large size and the sheer beauty that awaits you. Tsumeb is long-closed, so fine pieces like this only dribble out of old collections.
