Brilliant metallic, dark gray to black, melted-look hematite thickly covers matrix on this fine and rarely available material from an uncommon Devon, England locality - the Great Rock Mine. Hematite ore was mined in World War II for warship paint. The ore was nicknamed "Shining ore." Ex. Tony Ellis and Wes Parker Collections.
