Seldom available anymore, this classic old Chalcopyrite is from the Tincroft Mine in Cornwall. Often referred to as 'Blister Copper', this small-cabinet piece is composed of interconnected botryoids and stalks of Chalcopyrite. The botryoids are a common form, but the stalks are quite rare, and to have survived this long even more so. Tincroft opened in the early 1700s and operated until 1913, and the long, distinguished provenance reflects that history. This piece was previously in the collections of Sir Arthur Russell (the script of his characteristic cursive label is immediately obvious!), Frederick Pough, Joe Cilen, and Robert Lambert. A fine old piece with actual aesthetics, unlike most which survive to the market today.
