The granite pegmatites at Topsham have produced some of the finest Uraninite crystals known, although certainly not the largest. This crystal, contacted along the bottom, is a tabular, heavily modified cuboctahedron with good sub-metallic luster and brownish-black color. The Uraninites were discovered by Cliff Trebilcock, Jr. about 1958, and the deposits have have been re-mined since then. This might explain why there are references to the "Trebilcock Mine', though that is not listed in Mindat. This is an excellent and representative Uraninite from this well-known locality. It was in Charlie Key's collection since he was a kid, and passed on to Marshall Sussman some years ago, and then to me. It is a spectacular example of this USA classic, rarely seen for sale.
