A highly unusual specimen for this great locality azurite of Tsumeb because it is a sharp, tapered, thin crystal that is so transparent around the edges, that it is gemmy with light coming through. This kind of quality was exceedingly rare in Tsumeb and this is a very large example of the style of azurite crystals that give this effect, as most are thumbnails. It is a rarefied specimen, compared to most other Tsumeb azurite in this size range; and it certainly stands apart from the quantity of Mexican azurites that flooded the market a few years ago. It also happens to look good on both sides, although we chose one and made a base for it to stand for display, with the side with malachite facing forward.
