Novo Horizonte has produced spectacular specimens of epitactic Rutile on Hematite for decades and in fact is world-famous for this unique combination in beautiful specimens. That being said, this one stands out for quality among a crowd. This small cabinet piece features two larger and one smaller, water-clear Quartz crystals FULL of Rutile-Hematite asterisms! The two larger, doubly terminated Quartz crystals resemble Herkimer Diamonds in form along with their glassy luster, but they're penetrated by hundreds of glittering, golden needles of Rutile all radiating out from multiple dark, metallic Hematite centers within the Quartz...and even around the periphery! These Quartz crystals are 4.0 and 3.5 cm in length respectively, and have a smaller, 1 cm Quartz crystal near the center where they touch. ALL are permeated by Rutile-Hematite stars. The Quartz crystals and the exposed Rutiles are in excellent condition and the matrix on the reverse consists of sparkling, 1 to 3 mm Hematite crystals and subhedral Quartz. Aesthetic example of this famous material. Illustrated in Mineral Collections of Brazil, 2020, page 122.
