A classic from the brief mining here in the mid-1990s, which produced some of the best chalcocites in history. I love them for their iridescence and beautiful coloration. The site is now reclaimed and totally dead for any future collecting, but for a few brief years it really excited the mineral collecting world. This piece is a complex cluster anchored by a large, composite, rounded, and highly iridescent chalcocite crystal, 3.5 cm across. I would say this is a dramatic piece, for its size range, and among the better large miniatures/small cabinet pieces. And, we do not see many good ones turn up on the market anymore now that the mine was been closed 20 years. This piece is from the Phil Scalisi collection.
