Yellow sapphires are among the rarer colors in nature, and large specimens of yellow sapphires that are truly good are very rare. This is an outstanding, dramatic piece with good color that is complete all around. Usually, these sapphires are found in so-called gem gravels, deposits subject to much rolling and erosional forces. Thus, most crystals of this size (38 grams) would be expected to be far more heavily rolled, damaged, broken, and chipped. This is as close as you can ask to pristine and doubly-terminated, making it a rarity.
