This thumbnail is an exquisite example of the sceptered, bi-colored Tourmalines produced from this well-known Brazilian locality many years ago. The entire crystal is gem with the prominent cap exhibiting the quintessential green that isn't too dark and the shaft having a rich pink color. The scepter is substantial, comprising over a third of the specimen displaying a pyramidal termination with very faint, yet discernible striations. The entire crystal has an incredibly glassy luster. Prism faces on both components, stalk and the sceptre cap, are lightly striated. According to the science we know, they interpret this particular sceptered Tourmaline to have had an earlier formed pink elbaite crystal (containing minor manganese to provide its stunning gem pink color); and then to have its crystal-clear, green cap (containing trace iron for its color) added at a later time in the pocket! This piece is actually doubly terminated in that the base of the pink elbaite crystal has a crude, complex termination. The pyramidal termination is near-perfect with only one small ding on one corner. Simply stunning at 4.3 grams. Illustrated in Mineral Collections of Brazil, 2020, page 135.
