Larger matrix rhodochrosites like this one from N'Chwaning are rare. These sheaf-like crystals, to 1.5 cm in length, are lustrous and translucent and have a rich cranberry-red color. They were found 1979-1982 or so. None of this caliber have come out since. There is a lot of damage to the lower portion and to the sides. For such a soft mineral species, and for something that was not professionally collected at the time they came out, there is very little damage to the tips that are on the core crystal portion, running right down the middle of the specimen.
