Martite (on the accompanying label) is an uncommon variety of hematite and is the name given for hematite pseudomorphs after magnetite crystals. This sharp, euhedral, moderately lustrous, grayish-red pseudomorph has a sharp termination and is from a rare New Mexico locality for martite - the Hanover-Fierro District of Grant County. This was a large magnetite crystal and is neatly accented by a small crystal at the base. Ex. Dave Stoudt Collection.
