This rare piece features a prominent, sharp, translucent, vibrant, juicy "raspberry" color Grossular Garnet dodecahedron measuring 2.4cm across (over an inch!) along with a small, and just as nice, companion measuring 1.2cm across. The garnent crystal is very well-placed on the mounded Quartz matrix that contains several cross-sections of Garnet crystals that display the zoning inside these unique and strange garnet crystals from a few small finds in this region (ranging from dark olive green at the core to raspberry pink on the rim). Some even show a whitish altered core. There are also some smaller, coarse, sugary textured scattered about. This fine piece from the well-known Lake Jaco contact metamorphic deposit of Mexico, and would have come out through Benny Fenn, in the early 2000's. I have not seen any of this magnitude before or since that one find. For aesthetics and size range, this would be one of the better examples.
