Galenas are actually quite rare in fine quality from this district, in superb crystals. Even then, most do not have luster. This piece has screaming, freaky, brilliant luster! Collected in 1989 during advanced mining in the Annabel Lee, this combination piece is really first-rate and unusual for its display quality. The matrix is country rock (chert) with splendent Sphalerite crystals sandwiched in-between layers for a neat edge-on effect and a display of how these veins form in nature. On the matrix is a layer of etched purple Fluorite. Perched atop the Fluorite, on one end, are three striking Galena crystals that contrast in form and color. The largest is an impressive 4 cm on edge, with all having superb luster and intricate sharp corners modified by the octahedron crystal habit only at the very tips of the cube faces. The aesthetics and composition of this cabinet specimen are outstanding. Much better in person, as it is very 3-dimensional!
