Liddicoatite is a rare tourmaline varietal, seldom found in such large and gemmy crystals as this one. Also, the deep red hue is very fine on this piece: not mottled in color as they often are! The crystal is doubly terminated, with the basal termination having been healed. Translucent, with a rich, rose red color, this specimen of liddicoatite is significantly large and fine. Or it wouldnt have been in Steve's noted gem crystal collection, for a start. I exchanged it from Smale and he obtained it directly from Dr. Federico Pezzotta, in whos ecollection it also resided.
