A classic of the 1800s, the pyromorphites from the civil-war era lead mines in Wheatley are rare survivors of a time when the ore was so heavily needed by American industry and war - leaving few specimens to go to the market amidst what must have been mined. This is a perfect thumbnail specimen with relatively large crystals for the location (to 1 cm), excellent color, and good arrangement in a spray. It is remarkably without damage and has the best luster and sparkle I have ever seen on a Wheatley pyro - normally they have a dull and matte finish. While we see larger specimens, often with thin crusts of smaller crystals, this is a more rare style and a particularly unusual find in quality for thumbnail size.
