This is an important, large, single crystal of Gadolinite-(Y) from the Iveland area of Norway. This crystal has stepped faces, with a dark, reddish-brown color and good luster. There is some contacting at the top and bottom, which allows the micaceous core to be seen. An interesting side note: Yttrium is a significant component of this mineral, and it was named after J. Gadolin, who actually discovered Yttrium. Impressive for the species, crystals like this are few and far between. It masses 193 grams. Ex Marracino collection, 1965, by exchange.
