Superb, gemmy and large Legrandite accented by large Reinerite crystals in a beautiful combination makes this one of the most surprising thumbnail specimens we have seen, for Tsumeb or elsewhere! This is a one of a kind thumbnail specimen from Tsumeb featuring a tight cluster of super-lustrous, yellow-orange Legrandite crystals. The largest one is 1.5cm across and it's dominated by a streak of cherry-red coloration running through it, very reminiscent of a "tequila sunrise"! This is a rare example of the best Legrandite for the location, from the famous Zinc Pocket, 44 level in the third oxidation zone, found in 1992. Legrandite was unknown to Tsumeb until the discovery of the Zinc Pocket; however, Reinerite was described from Tsumeb in 1958 from lesser quality samples that are shamed by the large and eye-visible crystals here (formerly mislabeled as calcite). Over a dozen, frosty white, translucent, roughly prismatic crystals are distributed all over the Legrandite, yielding a thumbnail with fantastic composition and color contrast! The largest Reinerite crystal is 8mm in length, which is very large for the species! Ex. Terry Szenics collection with label. RAMAN on the reinerite was done at University of Arizona, and data is attached. Kept in the Szenics collection for decades, this was an unrecognized treasure.
