The most aesthetic and dramatic specimen of Dolomite on Quartz that I have handled from this historic mining district. Banska Stiavnica has been mined for Gold and Silver as far back and nearly 1000 years ago (11th Century). Incredibly enough, this was operating in the 1990s, and produced an incredible amount of classic display specimens that made Slovakia one of the great mineral producers in the history of European mining. This particular specimen hosts dozens of very sharp, "pearly," lustrous, slightly curved rhombohedra of off-white color Dolomite sitting on prismatic, milky Quartz crystals with minor associated sulfides on the base of the piece. Ex. Richard A. Kosnar Collection.
