For what it is, this is an outstanding combination piece from the Denton Mine that is among the best of its species known from the district. The Marcasite, which is extremely rare from the district, is very well-crystallized into sharp blades. The color and luster are excellent on them, and they complement the rich purple Fluorite crystals beautifully. The Marcasite blades are exceptionally large, reaching 2.4 cm in length. This was collected in 1994 during pillar robbing of the main orebody. Maybe not glamorous as a species, this is nonetheless a terrific miniature for both rarity and the beauty of the Marcasite. I might argue these are among the nicest marcasite crystals I have seen, in fact, for sharpness and crystal habit...they just happen to be from a Fluorite mine. Nice aesthetics, as well, overall!
