Over much of the time since 2002, in spurts, these unique specimens have trickled out of this area and continue to surprise us with the sharp symmetry of these amazing replacements (where the hematite has replaced earlier magnetite). With fidelity, the hematite has replaced the stunning sculptural form of the original magnetite crystals, in exquisite hopper growth. This specimen has a good luster which is hard to convey in the photo. From the collection of Dr. Ed David who acquired this specimen in the early days. More came out later, and prices have dropped a bit to be sure on average material. But this one is not average quality, at all. It is a really fine, unusually complex example of good size that is pristine and complete all around. Also, the form and habits of the material have changed from find to find over the years. This is from the first batch of material, which appeared on consignment with dealer John Attard at the Costa Mesa show in May of 2002.
