Aesthetically perched on a minor amount of matrix, are several crystals of lustrous and transparent, medium to very pale lavender-colored amethyst crystals to 5.2 cm in length. Most are typical prismatic quartz habit save one which is an extraordinary, lone, stout scepter that is gemmy and of a delicate medium-purple color. Some of the smaller crystals are almost colorless, which highlights the purple of the amethyst all the more. This is a nicely composed piece and is a very artistic example from these finds. Scepters from Piedra Parada are not common! This is an old specimen, from the 1980s, from the collection of one of my own mentors from Columbus Ohio days, Sandy Ludlum.
