Mined from the late 1850s to early 1880s, historical Herodsfoot Bournonites are a worldwide classic. This fine specimen features lustrous, gunmetal-gray Bournonites that are intergrown, with glassy and reflective, textbook, di-pyramidal Quartz crystals. The Bournonites are stout, blocky to slender, and they have the beginnings of the renowned cogweel habit. Quartz helps them contrast and stand out nicely! The largest Bournonite reaches up to 4.2 cm across and is intact, though there are a few small dings elsewhere. Vol. 43, No. 4 of the Mineralogical Record issue has a major article dedicated to this famous locality. An aesthetic specimen from the Herodsfoot Mine of Cornwall, these are very seldom available in this quality. Better in person! Apparently from a "Walker Collection" in New York, purchased in the 1980s.
