Legrandite, a very rare zinc arsenate, is one of those uncommon, old species that has a cache all its own due, in part, to the stunning color some possess. These sharp, acicular crystals have excellent luster and are gemmy to translucent. Some are even doubly-terminated! The vivid golden yellow color is complemented nicely by the ocherous limonite matrix. These sprays are outstanding, with the individual crystals reaching up to 9 mm in size. Legrandite, collected in the early 1980s in this quality from now-flooded levels of the Ojuela Mine, is one of those Holy Grails of mineral collecting. Certainly it would be in most collector's Top 20 species to own (or higher!) It is beautiful, and chemically and geographically super-rare, and you cannot deny the aesthetics of this particular, unusual specimen.
