Rhodochrosite
A very fine cluster of SHARP rhodochrosites from the 1990s finds here, at its heyday! This is a beautiful 360-degree knob of crystals shooting out from a quartz base. It is highlighted by a doubly terminated, lustrous and translucent crystal measuring 1.4 cm across. The color of the rhodos is a uniform, rose red. They are a large size for this particular pocket, nicknamed the Hedgehog Pocket because so many small rhodochrosites were perched in nests of quartz. This is a concentrated and rich specimen, for the pocket, instead of having that usual "dispersed" look. Today , it is very hard to get such fine miniatures of Colorado Rhodo that are actually aesthetic and in good condition, for a decent price. This is an older piece from a collection purchase, and one I could not replace today on the open market. Sharp, fine miniatures of this material cost as much as cabinet specimens, sometimes!
