Montgomeryite crystals (TL) with Variscite, Wardite
Montgomeryite crystals are truly one of those old Utah rarities that are almost never seen for sale. These intense, blue crystals sit perfectly in a pocket about 1 x 1 cm in size, and display magnificently against a background of the more common mineralization here. Named after Arthur Montgomery (1909-1999), American Mineralogist, Professor of Geology, Lafayette College, Easton, Pennsylvania, USA, who collected the first specimens. These date to the mid 1900s and are from the type locality, quite possibly from the type find by Montgomery, as few others came up with any. It is a superb specimen that was lurking in old troves of the Academy collection when it was broken up. Translucent blue crystals to several millimeters form rich clusters, in this protected pocket.
