A gem pencil Tourmaline from the Mesa Grande pegmatites of California originating from the Herb Obodda collection. This glassy, bi-color Elbaite is a little over an inch and a half in length: with the top one-third a lovely pink and bottom two-thirds a beautiful green and the crystal is gem and flawless throughout its length! It is perfectly terminated on one end and is a superb example of this historical style the locals called "pencils!" It is accompanied by Herb's label as well as one from E. R. Chadbourn (1855-1942), dating this to the early 1900s era of mining. See his biography at The Mineralogical Record: https://mineralogicalrecord.com/labels.asp?colid=1289
