Mineral specimens of any variety are rare and are rarely available from Parelhas, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. This is definitely a fine combination piece from this uncommon locale. A 7.0 cm, steeply terminated, lustrous tourmaline crystal is very aesthetically embedded in a sharp, glassy, transparent to translucent, stepped-growth face, smoky quartz crystal. Portions of the tourmaline are gemmy and have an unusual, deep wine-red to olive-green color. The backlit photo gives a hint of the gemminess and color variations. An excellent and rare combination specimen in fine quality from this very uncommon locale.
