Uvite is an uncommon member of the tourmaline family that reaches its zenith at Brumado, rarely in crystals colored a cherry red color. This lustrous and translucent specimen features discrete, red-maroon crystals, to 1.2 cm in length, scattered on a drusy matrix of sparkling dolomite. While we see specimens from time to time, perhaps a pocket per decade, they are always very rare and good specimens few. Isolated crystals like this, on the contrasting white matrix, are considered the most desirable matrix specimens. An old piece , surely.
