Mid-west limestone quarries are well-known for their mineral-rich geodes and pockets. The Celestines from the Lehigh Portland Cement Quarry, in general, have a beautiful golden color. All the smaller Celestines in this geode are golden and GEMMY. Perfect. The larger crystal here, a full 3 cm across and well-formed, ranges from colorless to golden, and the golden layer is infused with microsulfides. These sulfides add visual and mineralogical interest to an already fine crystal. This limestone quarry opened in 1901 and is now closed. A gorgeous specimen, rare, and better in person!
