Kyanite is known mostly as opaque crystals embedded in clunky quartz matrices. Occasionally, however, you get really pretty, gemmy ones that are not buried in quartz. Then came, in a small trickle, these amazing "blue-stripe" crystals, with a sharp, distinct growth zone running right down the middle. And amongst these, it would be hard to find one more dramatic and aesthetic than this one. It is GEMMY, DOUBLY-TERMINATED, has a PERFECT and bold blue stripe, and is sitting stop and perfectly exposed on the quartz matrix! This is just a stunning mineral specimen all around, and particularly notable when you consider that it is a spectacular example of a usually DULL mineral. 5.5 x 4.5 x 4.6 cm
