Sharp, lustrous dark reddish-black crystal of textbook-shaped almandine garnet, sitting on a matrix of gray rhyolite and druse quartz, makes this a perfectly balanced thumbnail specimen. The crystal is so sharp it looks carved - the best possible quality, which at the top of their game really set these garnets on a pedestal we all desire. This is a classic American locality, from which truly fine specimens with perfect form and luster, are uncommon. From three major thumbnail collections all focusing on crystal shape and perfection, this comes with excellent provenance as well. This is from the notable "American Beauties" thumbnail collection built over several decades by Jim Houran, and sold to Kyle Kevorkian in its entirety some time ago, now released in part for sale.
