Galena With Fluorite
Complete around both sides, this is a highly unusual galena specimen! Elongated crystals of hoppered growth Galena, on and intermixed with etched yellow Fluorite, make this a strange specimen. The Galena crystals, which can reach almost 5 cm in length, have a dendritic-like growth pattern. The luster is matte except where a few of the crystals have been cleaved (although the piece can surely be cleaned to brighten it up). There is equally etched yellow Fluorite crystals that reach to over a centimeter, as well as composing some of the matrix. An unusual and attractive specimen, with definite mineralogical interest. Ross Lillie says that this was mined in the 1960s or early 1970s and is a result of galena precipitating simultaneously with Baryte, which dissolved afterwards and left behind the strange galena growths (formed by constraint from the Baryte, now missing).
