An excellent, large, textbook, complex pyrite pyritohedron from the famous iron mines of Elba Island. Mining here dates back to the time of the Etruscans, and is one of the great classic European localities. This striking crystal has mirror-bright, brass-yellow luster and appears to be a single large crystal with an incredible multitude of stepped-growth faces. Complete-all-around and nearly pristine, the contact on the back is out of sight. Classic and outstanding, old-time material from this ancient locale. Ex. Gene Meieran Collection.
