Forsterite var. Peridot
A cluster of at least seven, vibrant, medium green, gemmy Peridot crystals makes up this attractive cluster from the olivine deposit in the Kaghan Valley in Pakistan. This locality produces these fine gem Forsterite var Peridot crystals from a shear zone in an altered rock, after much heat and pressure (that is why they occur here, where India slammed into Asia and raised the Himalaya Mountains). This cluster is particularly interesting to the collector in that the unusually wedge-shaped crystals are well-formed, terminated and are all transparent to translucent! The crystal in the foreground measures 2.3cm in length and 1.5cm in width. An attractive group with unusual crystal style compared to most specimens which end in more "pointy" prismatic terminations.
