Lustrous, dendritic aggregates of flattened, silver-gray sylvanite crystals richly cover the dense matrix coated with contrasting drusy calcite matrix. Prismatic crystals range up to 5mm. From the type locality at the famed gold-silver deposit at Baia de Aries (Offenbanya), Romania. This rare silver and gold telluride was discovered here in 1835. The deposit was mined historically, and intermittently (by collectors) up until about ten years ago. A superb old classic! Ex. Michel Houssa collection with label.
