A beautiful rhodochrosite miniature from the Hotazel Mine of South Africa. The lustrous, very gemmy, dark cherry-red rhodochrosite micro-scalenohedrons cover the matrix and what we believe is a large calcite rhomb on this striking specimen. We do not believe it is a pseudomorph, nor do we believe that this is a baryte crystal. The rhodochrosite-coated crystal is complete all-around and is pristine. We think, that the piece is from the Hotazel Mine and dates to the late 1960s or early 1970s. Ex. Jaime Bird Collection and accompanied by a Lidstrom's label.
