We were stunned when we saw this old-time columbite, not just for the location itself, but for the sharp and unusual twinning law! A superb, ultra-rare Columbite TWIN from Buckfield, Maine. The habit is rare and exceptional, as is the sub-metallic luster. Based on form and the substantial size of the crystals, I suspect this fits into the Columbite-(Mn) -Tantalite-(Mn) series, though it would require detailed chemical analysis to be sure which end member it is. A superb specimen, in all ways, for the species AND for the USA! ex Hoadley (1878-1942- http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=597) and Chapman ( (1894-1947 - http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=869) collections.
