A fine combination piece, this rare old German Cassiterite specimen is from the Sauberg Mine in the Erzgebirge. The highly lustrous Cassiterites average about 6 mm in size, and they appear almost black with a rich cinnamon fire when strongly lit. These are interspersed with gemmy, coated Quartz crystals (two are partials) to 12 mm, and dodecahedral Fluorites coated with fluorescent Muscovite of a varietal called (in the old days) Gilbertite. Good aesthetics and quality. Acquired from Al McGuinness, probably in the mid-60s, this was #3993 in Kay's collection. This is a rare large cassiterite plate from an old district!
