A striking sphalerite on quartz specimen from the historic Schemnitz mining district of Slovakia. A lustrous, 2.8 cm, twinned, jet-black sphalerite crystal with brown accents is very aesthetically set amongst sharp "mountain peaks" of glassy quartz crystals of very unusual habit. The terminations of the quartz crystals have a strange, secondary overgrowth of water-clear quartz with the sides of the faces having distinctive skeletal features. The quartz crystal terminations have a distinct, five-sided, star pattern, if you look straight down onto the quartz crystals.
