Bixbyite
Large, mirror bright, modified, 1.5cm, multiply twinned {111} crystal of bixbyite with a perfect amount of matrix. Crystals of this size and quality from the topaz-bearing rhyolites of the Thomas Range are uncommon, and for them to be twinned is the exception. A competition level thumbnail of this trivalent manganese oxide. This is just an outstanding specimen in every way and is from finds of the late 1990s by claim part-owner John Holfert who sold them to me in Costa Mesa of that year.
