Mimetite var. Campylite, with Baryte
A superb and rather LARGE example of this classic Mimetite variety, known in the mid-1800's by the local name Campylite. These barrel-shaped crystals range from a tannish-green to orange-red in color, and the luster is excellent. Mimetites are one of the most classic lead species found in the north of England. This particular piece is notable for its high luster, rich color (more vibrant than usual), and an association with blades of Baryte for accent. This is a huge, showy, museum-sized plate of this rare local variety of mimetite. They were found in the old days of mining here in the 1800s, and again in a few short bursts by collectors in the 1970s and early 1980s.
