This piece displays classic Maine blue-green color. This incredible, fat, hefty crystal is a true US classic and a "must" for any serious tourmaline collector. Crystals of this magnitude, from the 1970s or older finds, are extremely hard to come by and represent one of the Holy Grails of tourmaline collecting. This piece is from the 1972-4 pockets considered to be one of the finest East Coast tourmaline finds in this century. Although not transparent except at the very tip, it IS translucent throughout despite its thickness. This is a massive crystal that would be (ugh!) very valuable as carving rough as well. It has no repairs, which is unusual in a piece of such size. It is complete around with just trivial edge wear and that not on the front. All in all, this is a serious rock and frankly, I think it is being offered at a really reasonable price. The last one of this magnitude that I saw for sale was around 20k. Weight on this beast is 382 grams. There is a large amount of cutting and carving value, here!
