Hematite
Outstanding example of botryoidal Hematite, often nicknamed 'kidney ore', from the famous mines in Cornwall. NOTE that this is NOT from the much more prolific Hematite mines in Cumberland, but is Cornish - more rare by 100-fold or more. The silky, metallic luster is excellent, with the high reflectivity giving each and every mound it's own bright, leathery look. The botryoids ranged up to 1 cm across, and you can even discern the radial growth pattern on the exposed portions of the Hematites. Beautiful all the way around, historic and classic - these are hard to find today and probably date to the mid 1800s. Kay acquired this in the early 1970s.
